Libertarian
philosophy interest group not represented on campus
With the addition
of the Young Democrats, not all major political parties have representative
groups at TCU. Among my fellow Libertarians, the political philosophies
represented by the Young Republicans, the Young Democrats and the
Leftist Student Union are often seen as varying degrees of the same
philosophy (each with its different emphasis): authoritarianism.
While this is arguable, what is undeniable is that more Libertarians
ran for office in the state of Texas than did Democrats during the
most recent election. The Libertarian Party is a major political
party.
For those
students who identify with libertarian philosophy, if not also with
the positions of the Libertarian Party, there is no representative
group at TCU. While I have initiated preliminary actions with the
aim of organizing a libertarian philosophy students group,
the process has not yet begun in earnest, though I expect it to
be complete before the end of the year. Until such time, those students
who reject traditional left-right politics, who value individual
liberty and free trade, who seek peace and an end to arbitrary government
coercion, are left out in the cold.
