Painted Prayers
Kimbell Art Museum

Prayer books used by everyday men and women of the medieval and Renaissance times are presently on display at the Kimbell Art Museum. The books contain paintings and prints from collections of the Morgan Library in New York.

The manuscripts were considered best-sellers from 1250 to 1550, selling more copies than even the Bible. Dr. Timothy Potts, director of the Kimbell Art Museum, said the paintings are some of the “crowning glories” of European art.

“This unique loan ... provides a window into one of the most fascinating areas of medieval and Renaissance art,” Potts said.

Tickets for students with a student ID are $2 Tuesdays and $4 Wednesday to Sunday. Public tours are given Tuesday through Thursday at 3 p.m. and Fridays at 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit the Kimbell Art Museum online at www.kimbellart.org, or call (817) 332-8451.
