Hall events could be better
Those of us who live on campus have typical norms we
live by. We live with many other people. We have a resident
assistant, and were invited to attend wing socials
and all-hall activities.
It is truly to the benefit of all students to participate
in their residential community. It will not only contribute
to our quality of life, but we can score some free food
too.
However, some residence hall events stink worse than
the communal bathrooms. And when students dont
care enough to get off their futon to attend social
events happening only yards away, there is a problem.
Some residence halls programming has excelled,
including Moncrief Hall and the Tom Brown/Pete Wright
Apartments.
The quality of such hall events themes as Beer and Sex,
Shakespeare on the Commons, Central Market cooking classes
and discussion about eating disorders are great.
Wed like to see more interesting events, and hence,
more interest in them. A quick Internet search reveals
a multitude of ideas.
Overall, when it comes to programming, we sometimes
encourage silliness instead of usefulness. Students
need frequent breaks from relevancy.
A Bingo night every now and again would be more appreciated
more than another poorly organized progressive dinner.
RAs have more obligations to their residents than
to just know their names or to write them up for plugging
in their refrigerator incorrectly. We encourage RAs
to do a little research and make their residents
lives a little better.
