Three highly experienced students were chosen by the
Student Publications Committee to serve as the fall
semesters Skiff editor in chief and advertising
manager, as well as next years editor of Image
magazine, journalism chairman Tommy Thomason said Monday.
This
is as strong a leadership group as one could have put
out, Thomason said.
Kelly
Morris, the newly-chosen Skiff editor in chief, has
worked at the Skiff since the first week of her freshman
year. Morris, a junior news-editorial journalism major,
said she sees the papers potential in what it
can accomplish.
She
said she will encourage reporters to do a better job
of covering stories from beginning to end and focusing
more on issues important to students. Morris also said
she hopes to bring a positive, team environment to the
newsroom in order to break the Skiffs increasing
turnover rate.
Its
important to keep in mind that no matter what, the newspaper
will get done and tomorrow there will be new issues
to face, Morris said.
Thomason
said the members of the committee were looking for candidates
who were experienced, able to work with others and understand
the role of a newspaper. Morris exemplifies all of these
qualities, he said.
She
has earned the right for the position shes been
awarded, Thomason said.
Karla Williams, a junior advertising/public relations
major, was chosen Skiff advertising manager for a second
semester. Williams said she is excited this time around
because she knows what parts of the advertising department
can be made better.
Improving
the quality of advertising, training staff more extensively,
and working closely with the editorial staff are among
her goals, she said. Williams said these improvements
can increase the quality of ads as well as improve relations
with clients.
Thomason
said he is confident Williams understands the system
and the market well. Through bad economic times, the
Skiff raised ad revenue considerably, he said.
Brandon
Ortiz, a junior news-editorial journalism major, said
he will build upon Images achievements. Ortiz
has worked at the Skiff for the past six semesters,
including one semester as editor in chief.
I
hope to combine the great easy-to-read feature stories
the Image currently has now with longer, investigative
pieces that will enlighten and inform the TCU community,
he said.
Thomason
said hes well-qualified for the Image position.
I
couldnt imagine a better candidate, he said.
