Art
students compete in 12th annual Cross/Talk
The 12th annual Cross/Talk student art competition kicked
off Monday night with a reception and gallery showing.
The
student exhibit was divided into two categories for
judging graphic design and studio art. There
were two different stages of competition.
First,
each student was allowed to submit up to three pieces
to be considered for the show. Those whose work did
get in, competed for gift certificates donated by the
TCU Bookstore and Asel Art Supply.
Judging
was done by a professional graphic designer and a studio
artist. The prizes ranged from $25 to $50 and were given
to 12 artists.
Matt
Casey, a senior painting major, won a $25 gift certificate
to Asel Art Supply.
There
was a lot of competition, he said.
Casey
said teachers stress that every student needs to create
his or her own style.
Some
of the art is for sale, said Casey, but faculty say
education is the main focus.
Ronald
Watson, chairman of the art and art history department,
said it is a great learning tool for students.
People
are learning how to engage in professional competition,
he said.
