College theater competition delayed by
winter weather
After being delayed for two days, the Kennedy Center
American College Theater Festival began competition
Thursday, said Craig Lee, director of the Irene Ryan
competition.
The
festival includes a play competition, set design competition,
a play writing competition and several workshops, said
Lee, a theater instructor.
With
all the bad weather it is chaotic, Lee said. Were
smushing things together and were cutting out
some of the workshops that we do, which unfortunately
happens when you have to double schedule events.
McClennan
Community College, University of Central Arkansas, Sam
Houston State University, Arkansas State University-Beebe,
Dillard University and Southeastern Oklahoma State University,
are the participating schools, Lee said.
Every
school brought 30 to 40 people for the main play competition,
Lee said. More people are here to contribute to the
other competitions, he said. Lee said that throughout
the week there will be about 300 to 400 people at Ed
Landreth Hall to join in with different aspects of the
festival.
TCU
participated in sectionals competition in October, but
did not advance to the regional competition this week,
Lee said.
