The TCU baseball team (3-1) put themselves in good position early in the season with a convincing three-game sweep of University of Texas at San Antonio over the weekend.

In the three victories, TCU had 31 hits, scored 21 runs and boasted a .352 batting average. In TCU’s season-opening loss against University of Texas at Arlington, it had a .181 batting average.

Head coach Lance Brown said the team was more relaxed playing at home this weekend.
“Every game that we play, we are going to get more comfortable here,” Brown said. “I don’t think our focus was very good in the first game. We had fun (this game).”

Senior left fielder Chris Meeks said the team was optimistic about the series.

“We thought that if we took care of business, we would come out of here with three wins,” he said.

The Frogs picked up three nonconference wins. In the past two seasons, they have had a 22-31 record against nonconference opponents.

“Our nonconference schedule has hurt us in the past,” Brown said.

In Saturday’s game, TCU rained on former Frog Mike Srp’s homecoming parade by handing him and UTSA their first loss of the season. The Frogs scored five runs in five innings against Srp, led by senior first baseman Jared Lundeen who had four RBIs and a 9 ERA. The Frogs scored five more runs in the next three innings against senior relievers Hector Rodriguez and JP McLain. UTSA managed to put up four runs, bringing the final score to 10-4.

The Frogs played the Roadrunners in a doubleheader Sunday. In game one, the Frogs amassed seven hits and five runs in a 5-3 win. Stephens went 2-for-2 at the plate with a two-run home run in the third inning that broke a 3-3 tie.

In the second game Sunday, the Frogs made quick work of the Roadrunners as they scored six runs in the first four innings and allowed UTSA only one run in the sixth inning, which brought the final score to 6-1.
