Doctors more unhappy about less pay than
jobs
A study released last Tuesday shows that 18 percent of doctors in
the United States do not enjoy their work. The study, conducted
every other year from 1997 until 2001, polled more than 12,000 primary
care and specialist physicians. It was published in the Journal
of the American Medical Association and suggests nearly 20
percent of physicians practicing in the America do not enjoy what
they do for a living.
While the implication is that nearly a fifth of physicians in the
United States would rather be doing something else, what is the
percentage of the general populace who enjoy their jobs?
Doctors, if they are stuck in a job they do not enjoy or even a
job they loathe, are still stuck at the top.
The study suggests the arrangement under which health plans pay
physicians a predetermined monthly amount for each patient led to
higher levels of dissatisfaction.
It seems these doctors are not actually as unhappy with their jobs
as they are unhappy that they are no longer getting paid as much
as they are used to. It might be a fair guess that one-fifth the
amount of people in America would have similar qualms about being
paid less than to what they have grown accustomed.
