With a disappointing 1-0 sudden-death overtime loss,
the mens soccer team wrapped up its season and
said goodbye to eight of its seniors.
Associate Head Coach Blake Amos said he was somewhat
relieved it was the last game, because the season did
not go as well as was expected.
Unfortunately, Im kind of glad its
done because it was a rough year. Said Amos. We
start Monday for next August.
Among those graduating are the teams three co-captains,
Carrington Brown, Michael Lahoud and Nick Browne.
In Saturdays season closing match against the
South Florida, only one of the co-captains, Brown, got
to play in the match.
Lahoud was forced to watch the game from the sidelines
due to a back injury received right before the match
against Louisville. He has been struggling with injuries
all season, missing several games earlier on, due to
a pulled groin.
Browne was not able to play in the match because the
football team had a game scheduled for the same afternoon
as the soccer team, and he kicked for the Frogs in their
17-10 win.
The match was uneventful, with both teams playing defensively-minded
and finishing up with two scoreless halves to go into
overtime.
The defenses on both teams did a really good job
of allowing it to be a midfield game. Brown said.
One breakdown at the end, the guys not getting
back, the ball played through and they are in the back
of the net. Just one letdown and as a result we end
up losing the game 1-0.
Brown was disappointed with the outcome, especially
because it was his last game.
Im kind of disappointed, Brown said.
Its not the way you want to draw it up.
Coming into the season with these high expectations,
we just had these bad breaks here and there and we really
could never get any momentum going. But I had a good
time here. The team is great.
