The end is approaching for nine TCU soccer players.
Seniors
Michael Blackburn, Carrington Brown, Michael Lahoud,
Kenny Leising, Jon Meyers, Bobby Montes, Dustin Sitar
and Adam Williams will play their last games in a TCU
soccer uniform at noon Saturday at Garvey-Rosenthal
Stadium.
Midfielder
Nick Browne cannot attend because of his duties as the
kicker for the football team, which plays 2 p.m. Saturday
against Tulane.
Since
TCU (3-13-1, 2-6-1 Conference USA) is no longer in playoff
contention, associate head coach Blake Amos will allow
these seniors a chance to finish their careers with
a win against South Florida (10-6-0, 5-4-0 C-USA).
True
freshman forward Hunter West leads South Florida with
12 goals. Floridas Gatorade Player of the Year
as a high school senior, West has scored just three
fewer goals than the entire TCU team this season.
Amos
admits that it has not been easy to motivate his players
to practice since their loss to DePaul Oct. 26, which
eliminated their chances to qualify for the C-USA Tournament.
All
we can do is play every day and make sure we stay competitive
and fit, he said.
Weve just kind of played to enjoy ourselves.
Luckily, the weather was good (this week), so it made
it even more fun.
The
team is motivated to winning one last match for the
seniors, players say.
Since
it is the seniors last (match), it would be nice
to get them a win since we cant go to the postseason
any more, said junior midfielder Andrew Porteous,
TCUs leading scorer.
It
is the last game of our competitive careers and I do
not think any of us are going to go pro, senior
midfielder Jon Meyers said. It would be nice to
go out with a win in something you have been doing your
whole life.
