The volleyball team returned to the conference title
hunt with a five game victory over the Memphis Tigers
after dropping a three game match against Saint Louis
Friday.
Despite beginning conference play 0-3, TCU (9-11, 1-3
C-USA) moved from 12th place into a four-way tie for
ninth place with Saturdays victory against Memphis.
The top twelve teams advance to Chicago for the Conference
USA tournament.
Senior outside hitter Jenn Cuca said several factors
contributed to the victory on Saturday, including the
coaches new attitudes in practice.
The coaches have been extremely supportive and
positive this week, Cuca said. It just helped
a lot on the court knowing that they were supporting
us and that we were capable of winning.
The victory over Memphis upped the Frogs record
to 2-0 in five game matches this year.
Whenever you get to a five game match, it comes
down to whichever team wants it more and is willing
to fight harder, senior outside hitter Stephanie
Watson said. We definitely want the wins and have
the focus to fight all the way through and some teams
dont have that.
Watson said the Frogs look to use the Memphis game as
a springboard to the home stretch.
If we fight as hard as we did at Memphis, were
going to win a lot of the last nine regular season matches
and some post season matches for that matter,
Watson said. One of the strengths of our team
is that even on a losing streak weve been able
to keep our head up.
The win also was significant because the team controlled
the match from beginning to end.
The team travels to Houston for a showdown with the
fifth place Cougars. The Frogs and Cougars have already
met once this season at the Rice/Crown Plaza Invitational,
where the Cougars earned a three game victory.
