team sets four records at Invitational
The TCU rifle squad set four records in the 12th Annual
Horned Frog Invitational, held Oct. 4-6 and 11-13 at
the TCU Rifle Range. Highlighting the record-setting
performances for the Frogs were first-place finishes
in the team air rifle and individual smallbore competitions.
TCU claimed its second air rifle title of the season
by with a school-record 1,550 to edge Texas-El Paso
by eight points. The score bested the previous mark
of 1,518, set Sept. 7 at Nevada. Leading the way was
senior Stacy Hughes, who placed second overall with
a 392, breaking her own school record of 391, set Sept.
28 at Memphis.
In their first smallbore action of the season, the Horned
Frogs also broke a pair of school records while finishing
second. TCU totaled 4,504 in the competition, surpassing
the previous school record of 4,231, set Feb. 2 at Centenary.
Freshman Celeste Green claimed the individual championship
and school record with a 1,173. The previous school
record of 1,116 was set by her sister Jessica on Sept.
8, 2001 at San Francisco.
The TCU White squad took fourth and fifth respectively
in the seven-team smallbore and air rifle fields. The
teams 1,394 air rifle score was the best-ever
tally by a TCU White group.
TCU is also awaiting final results from this weekends
meet at Texas A&M.
