Some Interfraternity Council officials said they would
like for a new director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs
to be open-minded and willing to change.
Austin Dickson, IFC vice president of recruitment, said
the ability to adapt to change and work with traditions
are part of the legacy that Tom Sullivan left after
his resignation in August.
Sullivans resignation as director of Fraternity
and Sorority Affairs after more than two years has prompted
a nationwide search for a replacement. Sullivan, whose
last day here was Aug. 22, said he accepted a position
as coordinator of campus activities at Southwest Texas
State University.
In the broad scope of things, its a promotion
for me, Sullivan said. An opportunity came
up that I couldnt pass up on.
Mike Russel, associate dean of Campus Life, said he
is taking over the position until the university finds
a replacement.
Although the semester has already begun, Russel said
he is optimistic about finding a replacement.
There is a high likelihood that we will find someone
soon, Russel said. People are more willing
to leave their job in mid-semester.
Russel said a search committee will meet next week to
discuss replacement options. The committee will be composed
of one faculty member, three students and four Student
Affairs staff members, he said.
A nationwide search for a replacement officially began
Aug. 3, Russel said. He said the search team is not
looking within the university for a replacement.
Russel, Panhellenic Advisor and Program Coordinator
Stephanie Williams and Campus Life Coordinator James
Parker are all working together and sharing different
roles while a replacement is sought.
Its important to keep communication flowing
well, he said. Its important to make
sure all tasks are being covered.
Russel said qualifications for director of Fraternity
and Sorority Affairs are a masters degree in student
personnel or a related field and three to five years
experience with fraternity and sorority affairs, Russel
said.
