Center
placed on watch list
TCU
senior Chase Johnson is on the list of 36 players who
have been named to the preliminary 2004 Rimington Award
Watch List, which honors college footballs outstanding
center.
Johnson, a 6-3, 302-pound center from Shawnee Mission,
Kansas, was a second team All-Conference USA selection
by the leagues coaches and media members in 2003.
Last season, he helped the Horned Frogs log over 200 yards
rushing and 200 yards passing per game, one of just seven
schools to accomplish the feat. He has started 24 games
in his career.
The trophy is named after Dave Rimington, Nebraskas
Hall of Fame center. Boomer Esiason, a college and long-time
NFL quarterback, created the award in 2000 to honor the
outstanding 1-A center because there was no national award
for that position.
The Rimington Trophys Division 1-A winner is decided
by a consensus of All-America teams that are selected
by the Walter Camp Foundation, Football Writers Association
of America, American Football Coaches Association and
The Sporting News. |
